Computers and Commerce: 3—Stock Recording and Control

A. S. Douglas

In this article the problems of recording and controlling stock using a computer are considered. The implications of the time limits on stock recording set by businesses with a large daily turnover are discussed with particular reference to the use of magnetic tape for storing records in these circumstances. The points made are illustrated by an example, and a method of programming such an operation is suggested. Some of the difficulties of carrying out stock control directly by the computer are considered.
