A programming language for linear algebra

H. T. Burley *

Department of Applied Economics, University of Cambridge, Cambridge, UK

This paper describes a simple programming language designed to carry out the processes of linear algebra. The aim of this language is to allow the user greatest flexibility both in the sequence and type of operations employed without his having to be involved at all in preparing a separate program deck or tape for each model to be computed. The repertoire of instructions includes facilities for loops and subroutines as well as the full matrix, vector and scalar operations and input and output facilities.
