A finite element approach to surface definition
Control Systems Group, Imperial College, University of London, London, UK
The finite element method of analysis, which has been intensively developed over the last decade as a powerful approximation procedure in the field of structural mechanics, is here shown to be equally effective when applied to the surface definition problem. This new application of the method is introduced by analogy with the well known thin plate flexure problem. The results of numerical investigations are reported.
