Improved numerical methods for Volterra integral equations of the first kind

An improvement in direct numerical solutions of Volterra integral equations of the first kind can be achieved in cases where the desired solution is a much smoother function than the kernel of the equation, by fitting the solution and the kernel separately and using a higher order quadrature for the kernel than for the solution.
