Iterative schemes for high speed division

M. Ahmad *

Department of Computer Science, The University, Manchester, UK

This paper reviews the division schemes used on the earlier machines and compares them with the division schemes currently used on the high speed digital computers.

The theoretical developments of a purely multiplicative scheme are described and some modifications to enhance the speed of built-in division operation through this scheme are suggested.
