The Study of the Application of a Computer to Production Control

D. C. Hemy and W. J. Kease *

E.M.J. Electronics Ltd., Hayes, Middlesex, UK

This paper reviews the possible application of an electronic digital computer to production and material control routines. The paper is divided into four parts: (1) a review of production control systems; (2) a discussion of the characteristics of a digital computer capable of functioning on production control work; (3) an outline of a system of material control; (4) an outline of a system of production control, using a digital computer. In the appendix, detailed consideration is given to some of the calculations and references which have to be made in translating a proposed production programme into manufacturing and material delivery schedules.

* Mr. Kease is now with A.E.I.—Hotpoint Ltd.
