A Function Interpretive Scheme for Pegasus

J. S. Hornsby

Hawker Aircraft Ltd., Kingston, Surrey, UK

A scheme has been developed for use on the Ferranti Pegasus computer whereby a complete formula may be read in without breaking it down into single arithmetic steps. The computer itself subsequently programs the formula, and carries out certain simple types of calculation without the need for detailed instructions. This paper describes how the scheme is used, and how it works.
