The Generation of Pseudo-Random Numbers on Electronic Digital Computers

Different methods of generation of sequences of pseudo-random numbers on electronic digital computers are discussed. Statistical tests of randomness which can be applied to such sequences are considered, and an account is given of pseudo-random number subroutines which have been written for the Pegasus and Mercury computers.
