The Computer Board for Universities and Research Councils has been in existence for 10 years. It has spent about £150 million on the provision of computing facilities. But what are the University Computer Centres expected to produce in return for this investment? Further, the Board's annual report, published in January 1977 (The Computer Board, 1977) said:
in the present financial climate it was unlikely that money would continue to be available to meet all its recurrent commitments. The report continued:
the Board is seeking to determine criteria by which the limited funds can be allocated equitably.
