Computer fraud and abuse
The City University Business School, Gresham College, Basinghall Street, London, UK
Computer fraud and other abuse are major, often unrecognised, threats to modern organisations. This paper studies examples of computer abuse and also draws widely on other published work. The perpetrators are found to be computer specialists, outsiders, and systems users. Each category approaches the abuse in differing ways: the computer installation, the input media, the software and programs, the data bank and the computer output are all at risk. The significance of account manipulation in computer fraud is discussed. Finally the paper touches upon some control measures suggested by the findings of this study.
