A minicomputer based high level network control language
Computer and Systems Engineering Ltd, Woodcock Hill Estate, Harefield Road, Rickmansworth, UK
The increasing diversity of resources available on heterogeneous computer networks has led to attempts at automating certain remote access procedures on a user's behalf. This may be achieved by implementing a network agent which is interposed between the user and the network. The agent performs some of the interactions with the remote system according to predefined instructions and without the intervention of the user.
This paper describes the development of a high level Network Control Language which provides a method of programming such an agent. The language has been designed with particular reference to the network access environment and provides the necessary generality and flexibility to permit not only the automation of remote access procedures but the creation of netwide virtual systems.
