In Favour of System Prototypes and their Integration into the Systems Development Cycle

P. A. Dearnley * and P. J. Mayhew *

School of Computing Studies and Accountancy, University of East Anglia, Norwich, UK

This paper discusses the use of systems prototypes, examining their advantages and disadvantages. This is followed by an examination of the issues raised when prototyping is integrated into the systems development cycle. One way of achieving this is suggested. The proposed development cycle has the advantage that it forces the analyst to consider the benefits of building a systems prototype.
