FEDOS: A Finite Element Database for Offshore Structures
McDermott Engineering (London), 140 Wembley Park Drive, Wembley, Middlesex HA9 8JD, UK
Large-scale finite-element structural models demand excessive human and computer resources. FEDOS is an attempt to establish effective methods for managing the large volumes of data associated with the finite-element analysis of large offshore structures. Unlike other general-purpose structural analysis systems that are commercially available, FEDOS is unique in its use of a well-proven Database Management System to manage its database. This paper describes the development of FEDOS and its benefits to engineering users.
