The Supplier's Role in the Design of Products for Organisations
HUSAT Research Centre, Department of Human Sciences, University of Technology, Loughborough, Leicestershire LE11 3TU, UK
A survey of design processes in the United Kingdom demonstrates that suppliers of all kinds are showing an increasing concern for the requirements of user organisations. This paper examines the reasons for this development. It then reviews the many relationships between user organisations and suppliers that can be fostered during the design process in order to promote the development of systems that meet organisational needs. Finally, it examines a variety of techniques which can be used during the design process to enable designers and users to work together.
