Organization of a Computing Service for Industry and Commerce

Ferranti Ltd, 68 Newman Street, London, UK

Following experience using the Mark I computer at Manchester University, Ferranti opened their own Computer Centre in London in 1955 and have continued to extend their facilities each subsequent year. This year, which was given at the Harrogate conference of the British Computer Society in July 1960, reviews the first five years of operation and considers some of the problems to be met in the near future.
