A stable explicit method for the finite-difference solution of a fourth-order parabolic partial differential equation

Adaptation of the Du FortFrankel explicit scheme to a fourth order linear parabolic equation is shown to possess unrestricted stability for any choice of mesh spacings. Convergence and compatibility considerations are discussed and the theoretical results confirmed by numerical experiments for a chosen model problem.
