Boundary value problems for singular ordinary differential equations. A widely applicable method for calculating eigen-values

J. C. Taylor *

Department of Natural Philosophy, University of Glasgow, Glasgow, UK

We have described a computer-oriented method of generating the eigen-values arising out of boundary-value problems for ordinary differential equations of high order in the not unusual case where their coefficients are singular in the range of interest. Although we have concentrated on linear equations the method of using the analytic continuation of the solution is in principle applicable to non-linear systems but this possibility requires detailed working out.
