Some new surface forms for computer aided geometric design
Department of Computer Science, University of Utah, Salt Lake City, USA
Several new surfaces which interpolate to random data are developed by considering their interpolation and shape properties independently, and then combining them into a Boolean sum form which enjoys the attributes of both components. A closely related scheme for a rectangular surface patch is also introduced. These results reveal that one can be rather bolder in choosing constituent (not necessarily idempotent) operators for building well behaved Boolean sum surfaces for computer aided design and other applications. The operators, although unsatisfactory individually, may combine to form a worthwhile Boolean sum.
