A New Technique for Automatic Contouring and Contour Representation from Machine-Readable Spatial Data

M. Rom1 * and S. Bergman2 §

1 The Sci-Tex Corporation, Herzlia Pituach, Israel, 2 Computer Sciences Dept., Ben Gurion Univ. Beer Sheba, Israel

A new method for computing, storing and retrieving contour information is described. It provides greater compression than many existing methods and a great saving in the speed with which the data can be retrieved for later processing. The technique is particularly appropriate to fields such as topography, meteorology, geology and cartography.
