Tesseral Quaternions for the Octtree
NERC Unit for Thematic Information Systems, Geography Department, University of Reading, Whiteknights, PO Box 227, Reading RG6 2AB, UK
The linear occtree of Gargantini1 is discussed. Its addressing is extended to the whole of 3-dimensional Euclidean space. A place-system Tesseral arithmetic2,3 operating directly on the occtree addresses is described. It is based on the quaternions. They provide the geometrical operations of vector addition and subtraction, and rotate and scale.
Received March 1988. revised February 1989.
